Seven Ways to Improve
Your Smile
A great smile leads to great self-confidence. Whether you
are getting ready for a first date or job interview, a dazzling smile helps
others to perceive you as kind, generous and trustworthy. Here are a few tips
to improve your smile.
Eat Dairy Products
and Greens
Getting enough calcium and Vitamin D in your diet is
important to maintain healthy teeth and bones. Both are prevalent in dairy
products like milk, cheese and yogurt. If you do not enjoy dairy products,
leafy greens are an excellent alternative. Dark green vegetables like spinach,
kale and chard are also good sources of both calcium and Vitamin D.
Use Plenty of Floss
When you floss, make sure that you have at least one inch of
floss wrapped around each finger. If you do, the floss should stay on your
fingers while you floss in between each tooth.
Use a Soft-Bristled
Toothbrush
Hard-bristled toothbrushes can cause gums to recede. They
are so abrasive that they can actually wear down the enamel on your teeth.
Choose a soft-bristled toothbrush.
Visit the Dentist Twice
a Year
If you want a brilliant smile, it is imperative that you
have your teeth cleaned by a professional at least twice a year. Dentist and
dental hygienists have the tools and training necessary to provide you with the
best cleaning. They also examine your teeth and gums. Having regular dental
exams means that cavities, gingivitis and other common ailments are caught and
treated early.
Quit Drinking Coffee
If you want to have white teeth, you must stop consuming
food and beverages that cause stains. Coffee has long been known to stain
teeth. Some teas, red wine, cola and candy also stain teeth. If you smoke or
chew tobacco, quit. Tobacco is notorious for staining teeth. The chemicals in
tobacco also cause gums to look white and calloused.
Brush Your Teeth
Regularly
This tip may seem obvious. However, most people do not brush
their teeth correctly. You should brush your teeth for at least three minutes.
Put a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on a moistened toothbrush. Brush your
teeth in soft, circular motions. Begin in the back of the mouth. Brush the top,
inside and outside of a set of four teeth. Once you have thoroughly cleaned
this section, move on to the next.
Whiten Your Teeth
A smile filled with white teeth is much more attractive than
a smile filled with yellow teeth. There are several methods to whiten your
teeth. The easiest is to use hydrogen peroxide. Dip your toothbrush in hydrogen
peroxide, and softly brush teeth. Be sure to avoid the gums. Let the peroxide
sit for two minutes. After two minutes, brush your teeth as you normally would.
You can also use teeth whitening strips. These are available at most
pharmacies. You do not need a prescription to buy them. If these methods do not
work for you, dentists offer professional whitening services.
